Proclaiming the Name of Jesus

You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light

(1 Pe 2:9)

In I Peter 2:9 we are described as a "chosen race... a people belonging to God to proclaim the excellencies of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light."  That is one of our purposes when we come to know Christ as Savior and Lord, to proclaim something about Him with our words, our actions and the way we live our lives.

As a nation and world, we are now in the 4th week of this COVID crisis.  One of the results of this crisis is that most of us are isolated from work, our communities, our church and friends.  When we do venture out into the market place, because of this social distancing, little is exchanged with those we are shopping around.  So the question is, how can we fulfill this God given purpose to "proclaim Him" at such a time like this.

I believe that one of the ways the Lord is using this unique time in our history is by helping His people, the church to see and understand the amazing opportunity to proclaim the gospel and the beauty of Jesus through an on-line platform.  In the 1rst century, God used the Roman roads to reach the nations surrounding Jerusalem.  In the 18th-19th centuries, God used the Colonial shipping lanes to reach the far corners of the earth.  And now by His design, we are seeing an opportunity to use the Information Highway to reach others in every home for His glory.

Before COVID, the idea of providing worship services and Bible teaching on-line was not very high on most church's priority list.  But now since this crisis began, it has become a new reality and a priority for God's people.  And as we sort out all the technology issues related with providing good Bible teaching on-line, our eyes are now open to reaching many who would otherwise never walk into a church building.  This certainly is a God given opportunity.

And so we invite you to pray with us that we may be creative as we reach out to others through social media.  That we courageously reach out to those who may not know the Lord or be far from Him with opportunities to hear the word of God and about Jesus.   And as Immanuel Bible Church develops our Zoom, YouTube channel, Facebook and other paths on this Information Highway, let us together to "proclaim Him," and let people know there is a way out of darkness into "His wonderful light."
